There are some picnic areas in Pirot's surroundin whose landscapes make them very attractive, so they are visited a lot in summer by the inhabitants
PLANINARSKI DOM
Picnic area in Planinarski dom is 12 km away from the city, at the height of 1080 m. The hotel having the same name is there, too. The picnic area is on the slopes of Stara planina; it has beautiful flora and fauna, and at the same time it is a great place for rest and recreation, which is proved by the nice cottages built there. This picnic area, is attractive in winter as well as it is in summer, because it gives a possibility for winter tourism on ski slopes for winter sports. The mere picnic area is reached in 20 minutes, from the city.
VRELO
The picnic area Vrelo is 33 km away from Pirot, in a beautiful surroundin with two rivers, the Dojkinaèka and the Jelovièka. The picnic area can be reached in 40 minutes via asphalt road. Everyone will be attracted by this area of Stara planina at first sight. The canyon of the river Visoèica especially stands out with other parts which make this surroundin attractive. The picnic area Vrelo is at the height of 730 meters. There is a number of cottages and a workers' resort which planned to be a touristic complex. Guests can go hiking, relax, go fishing, go hunting. The 18th century monastery Mother of God is near this picnic area. The picnic area got its name after the spring (vrelo) which is in the part of the picnic area towards the village Jelovica. What makes this spring special is that it dries up once a year, in August, almost at the same time for a couple of hours.
TEMAC
This picnic area is 20 km away from Pirot and it can be reached in 30 minutes via asphalt road. It is near the hydroelectric power station Temac and a workers' resort and it is owned by EPS (Electrical industry Serbia). The mere picnic area is at the entrance to the beautiful canyon of the river Temštica, which was named by the local residents "Little Colorado". This picnic area abounds in beautiful landscapes and as such offers different possibilities to relax, go hunting, go fishing. Before reaching the picnic area, the 16 century monastery St.George can be visited.
SUKOVSKI MONASTERY
This picnic area is 18 km away from Pirot, near the village Sukovo. It is reached via asphalt road in 20 minutes. It is next to the river Jerma. As such, it is visited a lot in summer by the picnickers and campers; some of them have cottages there. The interested ones can visit the 18th century monastery St. Mother of God.
PICNIC AREA POGANOVO
It is near the 14th century monastery St. Jovan Bogoslov. It can be reached from Pirot in 30 minutes via asphalt road. It is 25 km away from the city. The mere picnic area is in the beautiful monastery surroundings and the arrival there is completed by the feeling everyone will experience while passing through the beautiful canyon of the river Jerma. The picnic area is suitable for relaxation, recreation and fishing.
PICNIC AREA ZAVOJSKO LAKE
This picnic area is 15 km away from Pirot. It is reached in 20 minutes via asphalt road. The places near the former villages Mala Lukanja i Zavoj are especially characteristic as picnic areas. There are a lot of cottages and in summer a lot of tents, trailers and other improvised objects for lodging and rest can be seen there. What is the most interesting is that besides the possibility to relax, people can go fishing, so in summer this picnic area is visited by the picnickers from other cities who are interested in fishing.
