So far there hasn't been a complete written record about the cultural property of the municipality of Pirot. There have been several works dealing with particular segments, such as monasteries, churches or fragmentary records in guide books.
Publishing house “Sloboda” published “The guide through the town and surroundings” by Miodrag P. Ciric in 1967. In chapters Church architecture, fresco painting and monuments and commemorative plaques there has been a partial record of cultural properties – Cultural monuments of the municipality of Pirot.
On the basis of data given by M. Ciric, in 1978 a journalist N. Djordjevic published “Pirot – the town on the river Nisava” where one small segment deals with some churches and monasteries of Pirot's surroundings, as well as it deals with the house of the Hristics and Momcilo's Town.
Ethnologist Milica Petkovic published in 1995 – “The guide – monasteries and churches in Ponisavlje”. Quoting her: “This guide is a brief and concise description of churches and monasteries of Gornje Ponisavlje, as well as, the events related to them…They help us put together the pieces of the mosaic called inheritance and tradition. They preserve Serbian characteristics and remind us, in case we forgot, of our identity.” (Petkovic, 1995,55)
Debt to our hometown and its cultural, historical and nature values fulfilled Borislava Lilic with her work “Pirot – centuries of preserved future” in 2001. This work deals with the cultural monuments of Pirot from a historian point of view.
